The hysteria caused by song “Gangnam Style” of South Korean rapper PSY is about to be replaced by a new musical style trending the Internet: “Harlem Shake” (scroll down for video).
The kick off was given by a blogger who posted an Youtube video showing several young men dancing in special costumes. Video’s concept was quickly copied and subsequently the Internet was overwhelmed by thousands of clips bearing the same name “Harlem Shake”.
“Harlem Shake” enjoys a great success, but unlike Gangnam Style, it can not easily be quantified as the number of hits, because the Internet unveils over 40,000 replicas pointing to the original video.
The author of the song “Harlem Shake” is DJ and music producer Baauer. “It’s crazy. All I did was to compose the song, so it’s kind of weird to me what happens. I created it, but it was raised by others and now it’s like my adopted child would return to me,” said 23-year-old Baauer, on his real name Harry Rodrigues.
Cascada, the band that represents Germany at Eurovision 2013, has been slammed for plagiarism, as their song “Glorious” that won the national selection allegedly resembles the winning song of last year. Now public television (NDR), which broadcasts the competition, hired an expert to verify the allegations (scroll down for video).
German public television – NDR – announced on Monday that it called for “a musical audit” and undertakes to communicate the results. “Producers of (pop group) Cascada deny these allegations,” informs NDR.
Cascada’s winning performance “Glorious” was chosen by German viewers, among other 12 candidate songs, to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest on May 18, in the Swedish city of Malmö.
Certain similarities between this Glorious and 2012′s winning hit “Euphoria” performed by Swedish singer Loreen were detected, forcing NDR television to react.
“Every year, there are some destabilization attempts of the Eurovision and artists taking part in the competition. Scandals, accusations of plagiarism, photos and other so-called revelations, emerge in the last moments,” says a statement issued by NDR.
NDR points out that Swedish song that won the contest in 2012 was in turn accused of plagiarizing songs released by various artists such as David Guetta and Rihanna. The allegations proved unfounded.
